League of Women Voters Forum

Last night was the League of Women Voters Forum. There are 10 candidates for Sequim City Council in the upcoming election. 7 of the 10 showed up; the 3 who did not participate were Sarah Kincaid, Mike Pence and Keith Larkin. It was too bad the voting population will not have the opportunity to see all of the candidates together as a comparison. The forum is recorded and will be available for viewing.

We were each given two minutes to introduce ourselves. The League had gathered questions from the public, we were each allowed 1 minute to answer questions in a round robin style. Finally we each had one minute for closing statements. It was a very fair and honest forum.

The questions ranged from the hiring of a new city manager, proclamation against the public health order, climate change and the local economy and more. If you weren't able to attend, check out the recording. (I will post it when it becomes available).

For me, the best part of last night's forum was that it is an opportunity to see us (Kathy Downer, Rachel Anderson, Lowell Rathbun, Brandon Janisse and myself) talking together about solving issues facing our city. This has happened on a smaller scale at some of the coffee talks we have done, but this is the first time all five of us have really had the opportunity to talk issues together. It was pretty exhilarating. I look forward to working with these four plus Tom Ferrell once we are all elected.

There will be a Sequim Good Governance League - Meet our endorsed candidates forum on Monday if you want to see more of what a new city council will look like:

Please join us for the SGGL Virtual Candidate Panel, a robust, non-partisan discussion with the five SGGL-endorsed Sequim City Council Candidates. This will be an opportunity to hear from the candidates along with lots of time for audience questions. The event will be moderated by Paula Barnes, the Dungeness Valley's longtime resident and retired Director of the North Olympic Library System. Note that because SGGL has endorsed a slate of candidates, we felt it would be a conflict of interest to attempt to put on an “independent Forum” and invite all candidates. Yes, this may sound out of step with the funny business that’s currently taking place in our community, but we believe in the importance of modeling good governance. All community members are invited. Please invite your friends and family and join us on 10/4. What is Executive Experience? What is my Experience?

I have heard that the current appointed Sequim City Councilors are saying that their challengers do not have any "executive experience," referring to themselves as the "E" team. I guess they think th
